Who are the Tree House Brothers?

How much does a tree house cost?

Tree houses can range in price from a basic platform decking with security railing, to huge, luxury houses built in the trees. But to give you an idea,  an 8′ x 8′ tree fort built in Connecticut, with ship lap pine siding, shutters for windows and a cedar roof may cost $12,000-15,000. A larger treehouse 10′ x 10′ with real custom windows $15,000-20,000. Do I need a permit?

Most tree houses in Connecticut do NOT need a permit because it is considered ‘playground equipment.’ But each town is different.

Do I need to pay taxes?

You do not need to pay taxes on a tree house in Connecticut as long as it is not considered “habitable.” Most fall under the ‘playground equipment’ category.

Can I bring electricity into the tree house?

Yes! But in some Connecticut towns, bringing electricity to a tree house changes it’s classification from “playground equipment” to “habitable.” In this case you would have to get special permits, but this is easily bypassed with an extra long extension cord. *wink*
